Class Happenings
This month we have two new exciting "happenings" in our classroom.
We have started our "ladybug" unit! We have been learning about ladybugs from nonfiction books, and are excited to watch our very own larvae change from "larva to pupa to adult ladybug." When they are full grown, we will set them free on the Saddle Rock grounds.
As a Service Learning Project this year, the kindergarten children have made posters to encourage others to donate items for the North Hempstead Animal Shelter. We also gave classroom presentations to encourage older students to help. Donations will be collected through June.

In writing workshop, we've completed our "How To" writing unit and are now writing "All About" Books. We've been reading and studying how non-fiction books are different than fiction books. Using anchor charts to help us, we try to incorporate what we've learned in our own writing. We are excited to teach others with our books!
We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday and ended our unit on penguins. We also continued working in our math journals. We've learned to include pictures, words and numbers in our responses. We are becoming great mathematicians!
In February and March we were very busy! For the 100th Day of Kindergarten, we celebrated with many fun activities, including measuring our collections of 100 to discover who had the shortest/longest and lightest/ heaviest collections.
In December, we finished our Gingerbread Literature Unit by making these tasty, "faux' gingerbread creations! Yum, yum!
Take a peek at some of the exciting work that we do, as we blossom in our "kindergarden!"
